The 11th Annual Wells Fargo Stirling Cup Classic is Back!

The Wells Fargo Stirling Cup NHL All-Star Weekend, September 23rd-25th, welcome’s back to Aspen the NHL All Star Alumni for a weekend of golf and hockey benefiting Aspen Junior Hockey in memory of local Stirling Cooper.

ASPEN, COLORADO- The Aspen Leafs, consisting of Aspen Junior Hockey Coaches and friends, will take on the Detroit Red Wings Alumni and other NHL greats, on Saturday, September 24th at 6:00pm at the Lewis Ice Arena at the ARC. The Red Wings are bringing some new faces to Aspen for the 11th year of this fantastic local event. Fan favorites to include: Dino Ciccarelli, Darren (Douglas) McCarty, George Bowman, John Ogrodnick, Wayne Presley, Craig Wolanin, Paul MacKinnon, Jon Finstrom, Joe Kocur, Dennis Hextall, Kevin Miller, Lorne Knauft, Ed Mio.

The Stirling Cup Classic Weekend is in memory of Stirling Cooper Jr., who died in a hiking accident in a remote Utah canyon on Aug. 28, 1999. Stirling grew up in Aspen until he went to high school in Arvada, his grandfather was one of the first silver miners in Aspen and his father, Stirling “Buzz” Cooper, still putters on the back side of Aspen Mountain on a trail dedicated to his son. “Stirling was a soccer and Nordic coach and loved hiking, biking and fishing in Aspen…and most of all loved his kids” said Jody Cooper of her late husband.
The Stirling Cup Classic All Star weekend has become a favorite with the local golf and hockey community and is a fun time for the whole family. Weekend Details include the following:
  • Friday, September 23rd: Welcome party for the NHL All Stars at a private home in Aspen, followed by a “meet the players” cocktail party at Brunelleschi’s.
  • Saturday, September 24th: 6:00pm Hockey game at the ARC, followed by reception at Escobar for players and fans.
  • Sunday, September 25th: Stirling Cup Classic Golf Tournament at Aspen Golf Course
